DEFRA approves a New Zealand A24 trap used to kill hedgehogs for use in the UK. UK aims at rats and stoats, expecting people using the trap to ensure they don’t accidentally trap hedgehogs. Hedgehog expert Hugh Warwick is reported as thinking differently.

A protected species in the UK it’s illegal to trap and kill them, even accidentally. Destruction of their habitat with the removal of hedgerows this British favourite has come into urban areas looking for food and safety in  gardens only to die from slug pellets This has resulted in many deaths as they find most gardeners use slug pellets which are toxic to the hedgehogs  and in urban areas  hedgehog road death is high from car kill.
