This very timely conference will focus on the next steps for developing integrated and modern networks for intra-city transport. It will be an opportunity to discuss how the £1.7 billion Transforming Cities Fund,  announced in the Industrial Strategy should be applied to achieve the aims of improving transport links and encouraging local growth within cities. The agenda includes a keynote address from Dr Cathy Miller, Deputy Director, North and Devolution Division, Department for Transport. Delegates will discuss policy issues around attracting public and private investment, infrastructure delivery, creating clean and decarbonised city environments, and integrating new technology. Sessions also examine the development of large-scale projects in metro cities, alongside schemes such as the Northern Powerhouse and Midlands Engine - including discussion in areas such as light rail, bus rapid transit, underground rail, and walking and cycling facilities.

Further sessions look at plans to upgrading transportation networks in smaller cities through competition-based awards, assessing some of the innovative approaches to boosting local connectivity and economic growth. Overall, areas for discussion include:
    •    Assessing the Transforming Cities Fund - including eligibility and distribution;
    •    Improving city transport infrastructure within the context of the Industrial Strategy;
    •    Priorities for metro mayors and Combined Authorities;
    •    Opportunities for public and private investment;
    •    Innovation - new technology and Connected and Autonomous Vehicles in modern city infrastructure; and
    •    Advancing sustainability and decarbonisation while delivering efficient transport infrastructure for city networks.
