East coast to West, University ranking

Seven of Scotland's Universities make it to the top 50 places, with St Andrews still ranking steadily at 6th after Cambridge, Oxford, Imperial College, LSE and Dunham and previously unranked West of Scotland makes the 112th slot in the 116 total.

In The Complete University Guide tables, Edinburgh is at 13th position having fallen from 11, and is beaten by York at 12 but winning over Southampton 14. Glasgow has climbed to 21st place, five up on last year and to rank after joint 19th Loughborough and Sussex, but higher than Birmingham.

Herriot Watt is up four at 38 to tie with Essex and rank just above Strathclyde at 40 (which dropped 5 places) Dundee is up from 45 to 43 with Stirling slotting into 45th place up from 52nd last year, is companionable jostled by Aberdeen which slipped two places to 46th.

Robert Gordon holds steady at 51. Glasgow Caledonian climbs 3 places to 76. Edinburgh Napier drops 10 places to 84 and Queen Margaret slides from 77 to 87. Abertay gains 3 places too reach 95 while West of Scotland, unranked last year, slides into 112th  place out of the total 116 listings.
