UK government gets new CIO

The head of IT at the Ministry of Justice is to become the Government's chief information offices, on the heels of Joe Harley announing his resignation from that post at the end of March. Government also looks for a replacement CIO at Department for Work & Pension where Harley held the title.

According to ComputerworldUK.com blogger, Tony Collins, the government is to appoint Joe Harley as itsnext CIO.  Harley, until now has been CIO at the Department of Work and Pensions, and will replace outgoing government CIO (right)  John Suffolk.

Collins describes Harley as “widely respected” within government departments, having cut £1.4 bn from costs at the DWP in a five year period.  Nelson will retain the title of CIO at the MoJ.

His career spans work as  IT director at insurer Royal Sun Alliance, as computer services director at supermarket Asda, and a year as a management consultant at Accenture.
