The rapidly expanding use by businesses of cloud computing as an IT solution will be the focus of an industry forum in Aberdeen next week at the Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre on August 25th, that will examine how the concept of IT services hosted remotely and delivered by internet – has developed in recent years, and assess the benefits to individual companies.

Hosted by the Digital Communications and Digital Systems Knowledge Transfer Networks , and trade body ScotlandIS, the day-long forum will feature a number of expert speakers on the subject.

Rob Hamilton, (right) MD of Dynamic Edge Solutions, will use a number of client case studies to highlight cloud implications for businesses. “Until recently cloud computing was regarded as a vague concept, but it is now very much a genuine proposition and a tangible IT solution for many businesses,” he said.

“Five years ago it was probably used by 1% of businesses but today that figure is probably around 15-20% as companies broaden their outlook and examine the options beyond the more traditional IT infrastructure.”

Dynamic Edge, that claims close on 30 clients deploying cloud computing solutions. “We have demonstrated that it has the potential to generate savings of 40% on ongoing IT costs, so the potential benefits are very clear,” said Hamilton whose presentation is scheduled at 3.15pm.  “Equally, it is a fast-growing area of technological development so the next few years are going to bring new opportunities in terms of IT efficiency and cost-effectiveness.”
