Aberdeen’s September 11-28 Techfest, whose joint principal funders are BP and Shell, will be Tweeting to promote Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics to children and adults. It will also be using Facebook and Bebo to keep in touch with those interested in the event, ensuring they are aware of what is taking place. TechFest received additional funding from EventScotland to help them use these sites to maximise the event's potential.

TechFest-SetPoint  is a registered charity based at University of Aberdeen. Those who sign up as ‘friends’ or ‘followers’ will receive regular updates throughout the festival featuring the highlights, what to look out for as well as pictures of the action from previous days.

TechFest’s MD, Liz Hodge (right)  says: “This year we have decided to utilise social networking sites, thanks to the support from EventScotland. We view these as a hugely important marketing tool to assist us in communicating with existing and new audiences.”

“Over the last 12 months Twitter has been widely publicised and has grown in popularity. We therefore decided to make use of this, along with Bebo and Facebook, to ensure as many people as possible know about TechFest In September and are encouraged to book when tickets become available for the many events on offer”

Through a programme of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) activities - of which TechFest In September is the main event – the aim is to engage, challenge, inform and inspire young people and encourage them to choose a career using these skills.

A wide range of events will be staged over 18 days, including a programme for primary and secondary schools. Booking will open later in the summer for the eagerly awaited public programme.

Anyone who wishes to view any of the TechFest In September social media sites can do so at Bebo, Facebook, and  Twitter.
