The original centre, sited at an old mill in Brothock Bridge, was relocated to custom built premises and officially opened by Sir Douglas Bader in 1979. The premises, wholly owned by the ATG, are equipped with a workshop which has had continual investment in modern plant and equipment to accommodates  a maximum of 80 trainees.

ATG has a programme of continual investment in new technology and in particular provides courses and training in CNC programming and operating. It is the only training centre for Pro Desktop for Schools (Auto Cad) and SolidEdge for schools in the area, offering day or evening courses to a wide range of clients.

In addition, there are lecture room facilities, a comprehensive library and rooms dedicated to computing. As a non-profit making company the Group is financially supported by its members and has access to various Government Supported Training Initiatives.

The major Group activity  is training craft and technician engineering modern apprentices to the nationally recognised SEMTA framework. Additionally training is provided for adults in a wide range of engineering  skills including Health and Safety courses and advice.

Adult training designed to meet specific needs including the introduction of new courses, interviewing, testing and selection of young people for apprenticeships, and assessment and monitoring of training are some of the important services provided.

The Group was the first Training Group; one of the first organisations in the UK, to gain Approved Training Organisation status from former Manpower Services Commission for Youth Training, and since become a Licensed Provider of Skillseekers for Skills Development Scotland. 

Training Provider of the Year in 2005 and involved in many initiatives at local and national level, the Group is the SEMTA Resource Centre for Tayside, has Accreditation for Investors in People and Scottish Quality Management Systems.
