How about the Neiman Marcus offering for a mere $4,950 of the "Highland" Advent calendar created by the MacKenzie-Childs company. Established in 1983, and located on a 65-acre dairy farm in Aurora, N.Y "alongside a small herd of Scottish Highland cattle, hens, and a duck pond, the artists create ceramic tableware, furniture, and home accents by hand using time-honoured techniques.

From enamelware and glassware to furniture and decorative accessories, MacKenzie-Childs combines vibrant colours and patterns to create a collection that epitomises "tradition with a twist" that has earned a worldwide following of loyal fans who are drawn to the line's whimsical style and dedication to quality .

 • Inside features a country winter scene with layered cutouts for a 3-D effect.
 • Handcrafted of wood and wood composite.
 • Hand painted with gold leaf accents.
 • 24.75"Sq. x 4.75"D.
 • Each will vary due to the nature of handcrafting.

The Highland is about the size of a large computer monitor, hand-painted with gold-leaf accents with 24 little drawers "each with a unique knob." reports Angela Hill in the Mercury News and then points out that the website notes: "We're sorry, but at this time we are unable to ship this merchandise to Canada."

"Well that does it," she reckons. "That reeks of anti-Canuckism to me. In protest, I shall not buy this item!"

Gaberlunzie would like to point out that he  was also offered a huge bribe in the form of a $500 gift card against $2,000 spending.  But doesn't like anti-Canuckism either, which in addition, reflects as anti-Scottish too, so he's looking elsewhere for his advent calendar as well.  Happy advent.
