Gaberlunzie wants to know why the laptop merchants have not made the top surface one you can write on and keep notes, easily reference maps etc and have the opening inside screen for really settled down to work stuff?

However, he does keep an eye on the useful Pogue at NYTimes, who has currently been talking to AMD (the smart graphic chip guys)  and they have been having a bit of a hack at the Windows, Skype and Intel merchant stickers cluttering up your new beautiful laptops, possibly seen by some as the mind-numbing grafitti of laptops.

AMD points out, it’s like buying a new, luxury car only to discover it comes with non- removable bumper stickers that promote the motor oil, the floor mat maker, windshield -fluid company and the pine tree airfreshener.

AMD’s research shows that consumers hate the stickers. But big money is involved with Intel, Microsoft, Skype and whoever else is represented by the stickers actually paying the computer companies for the billboard space!

That’s why HP for example, tolerated gumming up its laptops’ good looks with crass ads. Unlike Apple which refuses to put Intel stickers on its computers, even though there’s Intel inside! In doing so, it leaves millions of dollars a year on the table.

In 2011, AMD will switch to new stickers that peel off easily, leaving no residue; and is considering eliminating the sticker programme altogether. In the meanwhile, it’s going to make affixing its stickers optional. If a computer company chooses not to use the AMD stickers, AMD will still pay it the same marketing dollars to use in other ways.

Gaberlunzie took his favourite route to stirring up his mind by going to Google graphics on the subject and reckons that the solution may be "If you can't beat them, join them and simply out sticker them"

According he really fancies this one right and if it gets wearisome, it can always be changes as your browser graphics can change.

And actually, for smaller things like cell phones with their fairly scratchable backs, something like this left could fit the bill, and you can always design your own.
