Consultation on determining the Scottish Marine Regions is underway and closes 18 February 2011. Tayside organisations and individuals can register views on legislation affecting Scottish marine regions at an event in Dundee this week when Tay Estuary Forum hosts an open event at Discovery Point in Dundee on Thursday 27th January as part of the Scottish Government’s consultation on Scottish Marine Regions.

Marine (Scotland) Act provides for the creation of marine regions and, ultimately, the delegation of marine planning to a local level. This will allow for local accountability and input to decision making.

Scottish Marine Regions will be created through secondary legislation once the characteristics for establishing their boundaries are determined. The full consultation document can be downloaded.

“This is a chance for the public and organisations to register views on legislation that will determine how planning in our marine areas is managed in future,” said (left) Laura Booth, project officer for the Tay Estuary Forum.

“Planning in marine areas is becoming more important as various interests such as conservation and renewable energy come ever more to the fore.”

The event will include a presentation from Anna Donald, Marine Scotland, as well as an open forum for questions and discussion.

Starting at 9.30 am it runs to noon. Anyone wishing to attend is asked to register in advance Email: Laura Booth (TEF Project Officer) TayEstuaryForum@dundee.ac.uk Tel:01382 384933.
