Professor Crerar is a founding partner and chairman of Scottish commercial law firm Harper Macleod LLP, offices in Glasgow, Edinburgh and Inverness and held the part-time Chair of Banking Law at Glasgow University since 1997.He was formerly deputy chairman of Scottish Enterprise Glasgow and one of three chairmen of the Housing Improvement Task Force which in 2002 completed its work.

Fujitsu, the IT company which signed a £70m IT contract with Highland Council in 2009 and employs 150 staff across the Highlands, is to create a computer-based recreation and learning centre for youngsters from throughout the Highlands and Islands who are being treated at Raigmore hospital.

The reopening of the silica sand mine at Lochaline, whose workings cover around 370 acres, accessed by around 48 km of tunnels, lying under something like 150 metres of basalt is good news for Morvern and the Lochaline Quartz Sand Ltd which expects to produce around 100,000tpa.
