The staff at Glasgow University Archaeological Research Division (Guard) are under threat of closure for not meeting financial targets and could be offered voluntary redundancy.

Established in 1989, Guard is a commercial enterprise run by university academics in Glasgow, Edinburgh and Aberdeen, that provides archaeological services to businesses and public bodies across Scotland.

The Herald reports that managers of the University GUARD  service responsible for hit TV shows such as Channel 4’s Time Team could be offered voluntary redundancy, and are to ask the ruling court of Glasgow University if it would be prepared to offer voluntary severance packages to its 30 members

Guard has until December to explore alternative business models which may allow it to re-establish the business on a commercial basis independent of the university.

So the team can n consider such options as an archaeworld game, Scotology tours for visiting cruise ships or even virtual global cloud-based archaeology apps and services.
