Google celebrates

Saturday 4th September 2010
As named after Richard Buckminster Fuller, architectural modeller who popularised the geodesic dome.

It's been active Google, what with finding that Google Mail has a Tasks List bit that download below the contacts in which It has hidden somebody's write up of Google 'Voice' not to mention the new customised priority Inbox that suddenly appeared, which does amazing things with the floods of mail where the 'want-to-get-at's' get lost in a mass of 'can't-quite-chuck-it out-yets'!

Tasks which seems to promise much is irritating. First puzzle how a story on Google Voice ever got into the task list on my browser email page? Then I am unable to delete it as its my Task list and will get updated later?

Voice is an expanded version of a US service GrandCentral, which Google acquired 20 months ago. It is intended to simplify the way people handle phone calls, voice mail and text messages. The service initially available to only existing GrandCentral subscribers; Google says the general public will be able to use it in the coming weeks.

Google Voice allows users to route all their calls through a single number that can ring their home, work and mobile phones simultaneously. It also gives users a single and easy-to-manage voice mail system for multiple phone lines.

Internet calls work differently on Google Voice than on Skype. Rather than starting a call from a computer, a specialized phone or an application on a mobile device, Google Voice users can call into their voice mail service from any phone. Once there, they can push a button to get a dial tone and call a different number. As such, the service is not set up to handle video calls, though Google offers simple video-chatting capabilities through Google Talk, its instant-messaging service.

Analysts singled out Internet calling features as the potentially most disruptive service to established companies as Google’s potential to reach a mass audience could make a difference.

Vincent Paquet, COO and co-founder of GrandCentral left (with CEO co-founder Craig Walker) who is now a senior product manager at Google, said fees from Internet calls would probably play an important role in subsidising the free service, which for now will not carry advertisements.

“We can generate enough revenue from international calling to support the service,” he said, noting Google Voice now running on Google’s servers could operate at very low cost.

Email gets clean broom box!
Priority Inbox does what it says on the tin. Priorities sit in there and the rest of the muddle awaits your pleasure till you've sorted the must-do and can make time for the next- in-line.

Probably one of the most encouraging features is you can always undo it and switch back to your old, bad-habits, normal inbox by clicking inbox and hiding Priority inbox from Gmail setting. That was easy, wasn't it?
