Clyde Broadcast and African media giant DAAR Communications sign a €1m contract for equipping sixteen digital radio stations throughout Nigeria, at this years IBC.

Back in March Optiware, involved with the deployment of Information and Communication Technology solutions to public and private Institutions within the East Africa region, identified opportunities for radio broadcast projects and teamed up with  Clyde Broadcast .

Clyde’s expertise allows technology companies to pursue radio broadcast projects with a partner that can deliver,  and a combination of contacts and expertise has won the partnership  prestigious projects including the Kenyan Institute of Education and Digital upgrades for  KBC.

"We were delighted to be approached by such a prestigious organisation and plans are well under way for the roll-out of over thirty studios," says Clyde Broadcast sales director Brian Rowan

DAAR's  executive chairman, (right) High Chief Raymond Dokpesi noted "Clyde have an excellent track record in Nigeria. We are confident that Clyde will meet our very high standards and deliver us radio stations that we will all be very proud off."

Sixteen of these will be based around Clyde's Synergy Integrated Digital Broadcast Centres, the remainder using existing digital mixers and Clyde's S-Radio software suite - a Synergy derivative.

Each station will also have newsrooms equipped with Clyde Deskmates, providing reporters with comprehensive yet easy to use desktop audio facilities.

Tony Uyah, DAAR's executive engineering director said "Clyde's Synergy is highly suited to our needs; the key components in the studio - the playout hardware, software and mixing - are all remotely accessible, ideal for support, in fact Synergy can be considered as an IP-addressable radio studio - even the studio change-over can be remotely controlled!"

The station routing system is based around Clyde's new Station Hub, which forms the technical centre of each system, and allows easy connection to studios and workstations via standard CAT5 cables - considerably simplifying installation, easing maintenance and readily facilitating expansion.

Clyde's MD, Phil Collins added, "'It is fitting that such a contract be sealed at IBC, and particularly on the booth of Scottish Development International, who are exhibiting at the leading broadcasting trade show [held in Amsterdam] for the first time, show-casing some of Scotland's best technology companies."
