Edinburgh dominates for 'fast' 50

Strength of technology entrepreneurship in the East of England (Cambridgeshire) is perceived as above that of almost any other area in the UK from Deloitte's Technology Fast 50 venture. In the regional breakdown Cambridgeshire and the densely populated metropolis of London are the only regions given any distinction in Deloitte's eight categories - the other six including Scotland are given broad brush treatment.

What is equally interesting are the winning technology groups. The Internet (21) is well ahead of a varied 'other' (7) software (7) and telecommunications (3) are followed by hardware & peripherals, biotechnology and media & entertainment (2 each).

Rather depressingly all the winners in the Fast 50 Scottish geography game are based in Edinburgh, though courageous Bloxx is based in Livingston.

Scotland offers bigmouthmedia Ltd  (media growing even faster as it sends out its winning client releases!) EasyDate  and Skyscanner  (internet dating & travel) with Bloxx  and Rocela  (internet filtering & optimising Oracle software) showing that biottechnology, hardware & peripherals, electronics and ubiquitous 'other' just don't seem to be the current Scottish suite for fast growth.
