Gaberlunzie has spent many hours drifting through the Scottish National Portrait Gallery, marvelling at how the faces in the portraits are so similar to those still walking the cities of Scotland, and is delighted to learn that the Scottish National Galleries has embarked on an ambitious project - called Portrait of the Nation - to refurbish the Scottish National Portrait Gallery.

Supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund and the Scottish Government, this £17.6m  project will double the amount of public space within our unique Arts and Crafts building, the first purpose-built national portrait gallery in the world.

Working to a radical new Interpretation Strategy, we aim to transform the presentation of our world-class collections. With a provisional completion date of autumn 2011, building work is scheduled to commence in 2009.

We have already started to plan the content of our new displays and we are now looking for an experienced and imaginative design consultancy to help us create enjoyable, stimulating and visually stunning displays for our audiences.
