This is what Google says about the matter. "If you receive a mail that threatens account termination/suspension do not answer - it is a scam!"
ComputeScotland says Google might have notified me before the password lifters arrived!! It's the PayPal scam all over again, though that one was reasonably transparent.
If you receive a mail that politely requests verification - do not answer that either, it is also a scam! As for reporting the scam....you will be lucky to find the little arrow button and you will be putting your information at risk by not changing that password as fast as possible.
"Gmail will never send you a mail threatening account termination or lockdown. If the Gmail team needs to communicate with you, we will send you to a special web page when you next log in, or show a short "message bar" at the top of the Gmail web page.
"You can report these messages to us by clicking the little arrow button in the top right of the mail, then "Report Phishing".
