University of the West of Scotland is extending its range of courses being delivered at its Ayr Campus, with the introduction of computing programmes at the Campus from this month.

The new courses are being introduced as part of the University's curriculum planning prior to the build of its new Ayr Campus development. UWS' new £70m Ayr Campus is currently under construction and is scheduled for completion in September 2011. It will provide Ayrshire with one of Scotland's most modern, environmentally friendly and sustainable Higher Education learning environments.

Jim Scullion of the University's School of Computing said: "These new courses will offer great new opportunities for those living in Ayrshire who want to study computing to degree level locally."

In advance of the new build, the University has extended computing degree provision to the existing Ayr campus, with all of Ayr College's advanced Computing courses being transferred to the University. This development also sees seven staff transferred from Ayr College to UWS' School of Computing. (But unlike other Scottish Universities it is hard to find pictures of the people on the School's website)

New computer laboratories have been created specifically to cater for the new provision which includes areas such as computer games development, software development, web and multimedia development, technical support and computer networking.
