Newave of Quartino, Switzerland, founded in 1993 and going public in 2007 has been acquired by Asea Brown Boveri (ABB) which paid cash of CHF56/share to purchase all public shares.

Newave developed an Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) technology comprising a three-phase technology without an output transformer, but with a non-controlled diode rectifier stage followed by an advanced booster stage and subsequent energy-saving inverter switching technology.

It generated a net income of CHF 8.1m on sales of CHF 80.6m in 2010, reports Evertiq with its focus on development and production of power protection technology, as well as on technical consultancy, maintenance and service packages.

ABB plans to integrate Newave in its Discrete Automation and Motion division and develop Quartino as a main location for ABB’s UPS systems.
