Grass cutting using sun and wind power?

Friday 28th March 2008
Want to get ahead in the garden? Get a hat and a Husqvarna!

Gaberlunzie being a strong believer in hybrids and analogue, sees with pleasure that Husqvarna, the world's largest producer of lawn mowers, has been the first to launch a hybrid robotic lawnmower. IThe Automower Solar Hybrid is powered by a combination of solar power and electricity (which might have been wind generated!)

"This is to take Automower to the next level with higher performance and further reduced impact on the environment," says Bengt Andersson, CEO Husqvarna Group.  "90% of Automower is recyclable, it eliminates the need for fertilisers, it is quiet, has no exhaust emissions and ensures your lawn is always well-kept."

Designed and developed in Sweden, Automower Solar Hybrid meets the demands of customers who want to minimise their impact on the environment, but still want to enjoy a professional looking garden and have time for other activities.

Husqvarna claims: "It's been calculated that using Automower Solar Hybrid to cut the lawn in an average garden can save 40 hours of labour every year—the equivalent of an extra week's holiday." Owners just lay out a boundary cable that tells the robot where to stop cutting, saving the delphiniums from an untimely death. Cuttings don't need raking, either: the grass is cut so finely that it can be left where it falls and acts as a fertiliser.

"This is a glimpse of what gardening will be in the future, allowing home owners to spend more time with family and friends, while still achieving perfect results," says Towe Ressman, head of design for the Husqvarna Group.

Automower Solar Hybrid builds on Husqvarna's experience in developing previous versions of its smart robotic mowers and the positive experience of more than 50,000 people worldwide who are currently using and enjoying the benefits of Husqvarna Automower.
