In the last ten years, simulators and games have become invaluable training and research tools. Aptima’s Visual The Scenario Generator 4.0 addresses several challenges inherent in scenario creation:
- creating new scenarios for simulators is very costly and time-consuming
- current tools do not adequately define team and communication structures
- complex branching and state changes for scenario objects are difficult to define
- difficulty in modeling information and data exchange between players and teams
The Visual Scenario Generator 4.0 simplifies the task of scenario creation and allows users with modest PC experience to create complex scenarios. The Visual Scenario Generator 4.0 significantly reduces the time required to generate scenarios and augments the flexibility of DDD by allowing the creation of scenarios for a very broad range of domains.
Researchers have the ability to quickly and easily create domain specific entities (e.g., Hazmat, Police, Fire, F/A-18, CG 47 Ticonderoga-class cruiser) from generic DDD classes (e.g., objects, tasks). In addition, the DDD interface can be adapted via the Visual Scenario Generator 4.0 to any given domain by providing new maps and defining critical regions therein (e.g., disaster regions, no-fly zones).
The Visual Scenario Generator/DDD is currently in use in a variety of government agencies and departments, as well university research laboratories. Examples of current applications include:
- Emergency Operations Center team training
- Developing agent algorithms in humanitarian relief roles
- Ad-hoc team design in command and control
- Uninhabited Underwater Vehicle (UUV) mine hunting research
- Eye-tracking research and Uninhabited Aerial Vehicle (UAV) control
- Distributed organization research in an advanced business school program
- Individual and team roles in stream flow forecasting
- Terrorist prediction algorithms in urban environments
