Adventi gets Chance for growth

THE Scottish head of US software giant Oracle has taken the top job at Adventi. Eddy Chance, Oracle Corporation UK country leader for Scotland, resigned on from prestige to take up growth as CEO Bellshill-based Adventi. He replaces John McAleenan, who is leaving the company after 17 years.

McAleenmenan joined Adventi, an IT services provider, in 2005 when it acquired Apple supplier Scotsys, where McAleenan had been MD in a £5m takeover.  He handed his resignation to the Adventi board six months ago and agreed to stay until they found a replacement.

Adventi sadly  sold its retail operation, a Scotsys store in Edinburgh, to German-owned Apple retailer Cancom. In February it shut down its Glasgow shop after Apple opened its new outlet on Buchanan Street. But Scotsys real reputation under the radar, has always been in servicing and quiet, but amazing crises bale-outs for customers.

The change in management underlines a shift from highly competitive, low-margin sales of computer equipment to providing service contracts to businesses. The group also has plans to target lucrative public sector IT contracts at which it should do well.

Graham Bucknall, Adventi's founder and director of strategy, said: "We have got someone now who has credibility at running a big business." Chance is quoted saying the move was "a personal decision to take the helm of a growing company that is going places".

A graduate of Edinburgh University and the prestigious ENPC engineering school in Paris, Chance plans to bring some big corporate values to Adventi, which last year had a turnover of £16m and profits of about £500,000.
"I'm not going to hamstring the company with all sorts of big company processes," he said. "But clearly having worked for Oracle Corporation for 19 years there is some very good practice I have learned and they are going to get the benefit of that."

Oracle said VP Steve Gold, who held the job before Chance, will resume responsibility for Oracle in Scotland.
