Britain's National Audit Office said the $240m system was designed to save taxpayers $114m but will instead cost an extra $162m to repair according to The Daily . The Audit Office said in a report that the system's problems, which included deleting vacation days for public employees, were the result of insufficient testing time before it went live.
"This lack of completeness was highlighted as several users when seeking online help regarding a query, suddenly found their queries being answered in German rather than English," the report said.
A Department for Transport spokesman defended the system. "As with any pioneering project on such a large scale, there will always be lessons to be learned and we have already made improvements," he told The Daily Mail.
