"JPod"

Gaberlunzie is always hunting for new reading material and "JPod" by Douglas Coupland caught the eye for possibly being funny. Coupland is described as "weaving together a wild, multifaceted tale of the Internet age." [Thinks, ask the library first.]

The narrator is Ethan Jarleswki who tells a tale of a group of video game programmers and their improbable adventures throughout Vancouver, British Columbia, and a large chunk of Eastern Asia. [ For all Scottish writers out there remember to bring them to Scotland will you? We might get a film out of it!!]

The plot swirls around Jpod's problems and plans, including the development of a video game, their boss' abduction, several trips to China, a Subway diet hoax, and encounters with a wealthy Chinese entrepreneur, a man sans a sense of humor.

Written through journal entries in Ethan's computer [Mac or PC one wonders?] the text is peppered with some of the documents that are mentioned within the story, making for a new reading experience [Eek script reading!] Ethan's own dysfunctional family plays a large part of the story, including his father's ballroom dancing antics, and his mother's move to a lesbian commune.
