Fife software company eCom Scotland set up in 1996 as an education spinout, has worked over the last 11 years with some of the most progressive organisations in the field of on-line learning and assessment.
In October, 2007 The Scottish Parliament contracted the company to supply eNet LMS to incorporate a blended approach to their Learning and Development Strategy. The basis of the system is to encourage staff to undertake Learning and Development activities at a time, pace and place most suitable to them. eNet LMS is a module based Learning Management System that can be configured to the clients needs. The system is easy to use and compliant with other packages.
Now eCom Scotland is predicting it will quadruple its turnover to £2m over the next two to three years as it hopes to score with the water and power utilities market after striking a corporate learning deal with Scottish Water.
The ECom's Skills Locker application has been rolled out to thousands of staff and allows the water giant to asses the skills of teams and individuals. ECom MD Linda Steedman welcomed the deal and commented: "What we had was useful for education, but utilities is a completely different market. In the last seven or eight months, we have been working with Scottish Water to fine-tune a skills-management system.
"The utilities market would give us an opportunity to grow quite dramatically and put into practice all of the R&D we have doing over the years. We are looking to double [turnover] over the next year and then hopefully double again over the following year."
