An online database of innovative ideas and practical new ways of doing things has been established to assist rural health workers in delivering health care to their communities. New Zealand Institute of Rural Health chief executive Robin Steed says much of the information will be sourced from rural practitioners themselves.
“There are plenty of people and health organisations in rural areas who are doing good, exciting and innovative things, but until now there has been no really effective way of sharing their ideas and information with colleagues in other areas.
“It’s also true there are many people doing the same kind of work, but often in very different ways; the online library will provide opportunities for bringing across-the-board focus and direction through more effective use of the practical information it contains.”
The online library has been made possible by Ministry of Health rural innovation funding, says Ms Steed. While the database is small at present, it is growing and links to information are being added all the time.
“This is the kind of material we are aiming to collect for our library and we are encouraging rural practitioners and organisations to submit their innovations online to us through our website.”
