Back in January research led by Michelle Wang of Cornell University involved the 'unzipping' of single DNA molecules to gain new insight into how genes are packed and expressed within a cell. Now Professor William Earnshaw at university of Edinburgh leads research that builds a clearer picture of how lengthy strands of DNA are concertinaed when cells grow and divide, in a discovery could help explain how cell renewal can go wrong.
