Advertised in February 2009, the overall Scottish Government new £170m Framework agreement has a budget of between £130m - £170m over the possible four-year-period across all six Lots.  It is understood that 23 suppliers have been appointed to the framework according to the initial advert.   The framework will be involved in the procurement of design, print, display materials, promotional Items and DVD replication and duplication services throughout Scotland.

Orkney-based Scotrenewables, is pioneering the development of technology which harnesses energy from tidal currents. The seas around the Pentland Firth and Orkney Islands are recognised as some of Europe's best locations for wave and tidal power developments.

Two companies, US PowerFilm subsidiary Phicot and a Portugese company Displax are producing new polymer skins interfaces. In Phicot's case the skin is adapted from existing a cheap silicon solar cells embedded in printed polymer process, while Displax has based its polymer around capacitive technology on a thinner than paper film that turns glass, plastic, wood or curved surfaces into an interactive touch screen display.

Equipment is the largest segment of the ALD market, with a value of $120.8m in 2009. That is expected to rise at a 5-year CAGR of 36.8% to reach nearly $579m in 2014. The other segment, materials, is projected to reach a value of nearly $400m in 2014, after rising at a CAGR of 38.5% from its 2009 estimated value of more than $78m.

Taconic is to establish of a specialised breeding facility in Edinburgh tol be used in development and production of the most technologically advanced models available to scientists, creating new jobs locally. The site is intended as first stage in establishing a strong Taconic presence in Scotland.

Palaeontologists and microbiologist researchers in the UK and Germany are hunting for our ancestors. From the Department of Geology at the University of Leicester, the palaeontologists have devised a new method for extracting information from 500m year old fossils that indicate some of the earliest fossils from our part of the tree of life may have been more complex than has previously been thought. In May last year SystemC won a major contract with NHS Connecting for Health to develop and install pilot clinical intelligence systems in over a dozen NHS Trusts. The complex contract involving development of over 450 dashboard metrics, integration of data feeds from more than 50 external systems. All projects were completed and deployed successfully by the end of November 2009 it has received extremely positive feedback from the clinicians and the Trusts.

NHS National Services Scotland could decide that the recent Patient Management System contract should be widened to become a national system to cover all NHS boards in Scotland. NHS NSS, which procures IT software on behalf on Scotland’s 14 health boards and eight special health boards, selected InterSystems with Trakcare as its preferred bidder in November.

Local road safety concerns are fly in the ointment to Europe's biggest data centre at Peelhouses which has been granted conditional approval. The decision means construction of the facility, which could attract up to £3.5 billion worth of investment, could start as early as next year, as approval from Scottish Ministers is no longer needed.
